MHESI Lays the Foundation Stone for the “University of Phayao Science Park” at the University of Phayao.
On Friday, March 14th, 2025, Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), along with executives from the University of Phayao, led by Special Professor Atthaphon Yaisawang, the Office of the University of Phayao Council, and Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony for the University of Phayao Science Park. The event was attended by Mr. Rattapol Naradisorn, Governor of Phayao Province, executives, faculty members, researchers, entrepreneurs, and representatives from public and private sector partners at the construction site within the university.
Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) stated that this center will serve as a hub for promoting innovative entrepreneurs at both local and national levels, particularly in the future food industry, which is one of the country’s target industries. The MHESI is committed to supporting and driving integration among the education sector, industry, local communities, and regional science parks to develop the bio-based economy in northern Thailand concretely.
Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, announced that the support from MHESI in developing the regional science park infrastructure will greatly benefit entrepreneurs in the Upper Northern Region 2 (Phayao, Chiang Rai, Phrae, and Nan). This initiative will strengthen the region’s innovation capacity and establish the university as a hub for science, technology, and innovation, driving the growth of the bio-based economy. Specifically, the focus on future food and functional food industries will not only generate income for farmers, but also add value to regional products and increase the competitiveness of local entrepreneurs. The foundation stone laying ceremony is a significant milestone in the development of the country’s science, technology, and innovation infrastructure at the University of Phayao. It serves to strengthen the local innovation ecosystem and promote sustainable economic growth in Upper Northern Region 2. The University of Phayao would like to express its gratitude to the Minister and MHESI for their continuous support in fulfilling the university’s mission in collaboration with local communities.
The University of Phayao Science Park is a state-of-the-art innovation incubation space, equipped with cutting-edge research laboratories, product development facilities, an innovative food prototype factory, standard analysis labs, co-working spaces, and business consulting areas. This center offers comprehensive support to entrepreneurs, from the initial stages of innovation development to prototype production and commercial planning. Its establishment marks a significant milestone for the University of Phayao, positioning it as a leader in science, technology, and innovation, driving sustainable economic growth at both regional and national levels.
After the foundation stone laying ceremony, the Minister and her delegation took a tour of the university’s green areas using electric vehicle buses (EV Buses). This aligns with the government’s and MHESI’s policy to decrease pollution and encourage sustainable transportation.
