AI Engineering & Innovation Summit 2024 Driving Thailand’s AI Innovation to the Global Stage
The AI Engineering Institute (AIEI), in collaboration with six leading universities in Thailand, successfully hosted the AI Engineering & Innovation Summit 2024. The event, led by CMKL University in partnership with King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Mahidol University, Chiang Mai University, Prince of Songkla University, and Khon Kaen University, highlighted efforts to enhance national competitiveness by cultivating expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and computer technology.
Held at the Grand Ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok, the summit served as a platform for advancing AI research and education. Faculty members and researchers within the AIEI network shared knowledge, showcased innovations, and discussed strategies for strengthening AI development in Thailand.
Professor Dr. Suchatvee Suwansawat, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at CMKL University, underscored the significance of collaborative partnerships among universities in driving AI innovation. He detailed research projects at CMKL University that leverage AI in agriculture, healthcare, sustainable waste management, and improving the quality of life, especially for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, he introduced plans for a partnership with Chao Khun Thahan Hospital to develop Thailand’s first AI-driven healthcare facility.
Associate Professor Dr. Supan Tangjitkusonman, President of CMKL University, announced that during the event, CMKL signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), and Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC). This expanded network aims to amplify AI research and resource-sharing between institutions. Discussions also explored potential collaborations with the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) to support AI adoption among SMEs and with Siam AI Cloud to develop AI infrastructure and innovation.
Assistant Professor Dr. Akkarit Sangpetch, Director of AIEI at CMKL University, noted that this second edition of the summit, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMU-C), and DELL Technologies, demonstrated Thailand’s readiness to establish itself as a global leader in AI through joint efforts by academic institutions in the AIEI network.
The event featured expert-led lectures, panel discussions, and research presentations, showcasing the latest trends and achievements in AI. Attendees also explored Thailand’s progress in AI development and the nation’s vision for a sustainable, AI-driven future.
The summit successfully embodied AIEI’s mission to unite academia, industry, and government to foster AI innovation. Supported by PMU-C and the Innovation Fund, the event promoted partnerships, highlighted student-driven projects, and reinforced Thailand’s position as a hub for AI research and development. These efforts align with the National AI Strategy, focusing on building AI expertise and fostering collaborations to propel Thailand’s innovations onto the global stage.
