After attending the Learning Cities conference in Shanghai, China from October 21st to 25th, 2024, organized by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and Shanghai Open University (SOU), Associate Professor Dr. Phanintra Teeranon, Assistant to the President at the University of Phayao, and Miss Yapa Witnalakorn, Secretary to the Chief Executive of Phayao Provincial Administrative Organization, were proud to represent Thailand and Phayao Province at this important event. The conference focused on promoting lifelong learning policies through collaboration with networks from 12 countries around the world.

On November 21st to December 3rd, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Phanintra Teeranon and Miss Yapa Witnalakorn were invited to serve on the UNESCO policy statement (Manifesto) committee for creating learning cities focused on environmental sustainability and green cities. During the conference, Miss Yapa Witnalakorn represented Phayao Province and presented the topic “From Campus to Community: Universities Shaping Climate-Resilient Learning Cities” at The Sixth International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC6) in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Ms. Duriya Amatavivat, Director of SEAMEO SEPS and Advisor on Foreign Affairs at the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, also attended the conference.

The University of Phayao has been leading the effort to create Learning Cities, with support from various organizations such as the Phayao Provincial Administrative Organization, Phayao City Municipality, Phayao Provincial Education Office, Phayao Provincial Office of Learning Encouragement, and Phayao Special Education Center for over three years. This collaboration has had a significant impact on the quality of life in the community, as evidenced by their role as a consultant for national learning cities and their continuous involvement in proposing international lifelong learning policies. As a result of their efforts, Phayao was accepted as a member of the UNESCO Learning Cities network in 2022/2023.

This ongoing participation and efforts highlight the University of Phayao’s commitment, along with relevant local agencies, to building sustainable learning cities and enhancing community quality of life through lifelong learning.
