CMKL Leads 5 Leading Universities Sign MoU to Establish AI Engineering Institute

Mr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Guest of Honor, and Mr.Panuwat Triyangkulsri, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry honored to attend the ceremony of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between 6 leading university, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supan Tungjitkusolmun, President of CMKL University in conjunction with 5 network universities consisting of Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, M.D. President of Mahidol University, Assoc. Prof. Sampan Singharajwarapan, Vice President of Chiang Mai University, Asst. Prof. Dr.Jumphon Chuenjitsiri, Vice President for Legal and Academic Services of Prince of Songkla University, Assoc. Prof. Dr.Somyot Kaitwanidvilai, Dean School of Engineering of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and Assoc. Prof. Ratchapon Suntivarakorn, Dean of Faculty of Engineering Khon Kaen University in order to establish AI Engineering Institute(AIEI) at Kamolthip Ballroom, The Sukosol Bangkok.

Besides all 6 universities signed MoU in order to establish AI Engineering Institute, bringing the aforementioned institutions to sign cooperate with the private sector such as Huawei Technologies (Thailand), T.C.C. Technology Co., Ltd. (TCCtech – ETDC), Advance Infor Service Public PCL., True Digital Park, and Kasikorn Business-Technology Group.

NVIDIA will help to develop artificial intelligence (AI) talent by empowering the universities through the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute and teaching kits.

Keith Strier – Worldwide VP of AI Nation Partnership and Member of US AI Nation Program, NVIDIA said that “With AI driving transformation across industries, it is timely that the six universities have banded together to establish the AI Engineering Institute. The need for AI talents is critical. At NVIDIA, our Deep Learning Institute offers the resources and training necessary for university students to gain invaluable AI skills and knowledge. We will work with the institute to train and develop the talents needed for the AI ecosystem.”

The AI Engineering Institute (AIEI) was established as a center to help coordinate between university networks to jointly manage education. Share resources and provide students with more efficient access to experts from the universities in their networks.

The Artificial Intelligence and Computing Engineering (AiCE) program CMKL university is considered to be a pilot program for educational management that focuses on Competency-based Education. A curriculum that transcends the limits of traditional education to enable students to develop both practical and social skills. It also encourages students to collaborate with industry to build artificial intelligence and computer technology for the country’s growth. Create a new phenomenon in the education industry to develop the potential of learners to meet the needs of the industrial sector effectively.

Dr. Akkarit Sangpetch, Program Director of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Engineering Program, CMKL University said that “Artificial Intelligence and Computer Engineering Curriculum Structure, CMKL University has developed a body of knowledge that covers all four areas of Artificial Intelligence Engineering based on the needs of the faculty’s research and development experience in both government agencies and the private sector (AI Engineering).”

CMKL University was established as a collaboration between Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), CMKL University will provide cutting-edge engineering research and education in Southeast Asia. By bridging world-class partnerships with local context, CMKL makes technologies accessible to its society and creates innovations that will benefit Thailand and the Southeast Asia region.
