CMKL’s AI Supercomputer Leads the Battle Against COVID-19
APEX-Goliath Supercomputer Works Alongside Medical Officers and AI Experts to Fight Against Coronavirus Mutation
Supan Tungjitkusolmun, President of CMKL University, Suchatvee Suwansawat, President of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), and Anan Srikiatkhachorn, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of KMITL and CEO of King Mongkut Chakhun Thaharn (KMC) Hospital had proudly signed an academic agreement to circulate their medical and engineering expertise and powerful tools, specifically, the Apex Goliath supercomputer, to combat the mutation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Being able to predict the mutation quicker than before with the help of this powerful supercomputer, medical team members will have sufficient time to stop the spread. Medical staff will go through the genome sequencing procedures once the sample has been collected from the patients to convert the collected samples into readable codes. The mutation alert system will read the genome codes of the virus collected and will immediately alert if there is a tendency that the coronavirus strain might begin to mutate.
The Apex-Goliath supercomputer will act as a vital tool in the marriage between medical knowledge and the robustness of AI technology with hopes to alert and obstruct the continuing pandemic arising in Thailand. With the Apex-Goliath supercomputer processing speed, roughly equivalent to about one million times faster than a household computer, researchers and medical teams will be able to identify the virus’s mutation point and take action beforehand.
Chair of CMKL University’s Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, has also mentioned that this technological leap and the alliance with a world-class institution will help Thailand strengthen its AI experience and skillset within the appropriate context. Furthermore, this will also improve the country’s public health standards, the economy, and society.
